The Greek island of Rhodes is home to the 'Rhodes International Culture & Heritage Society'. Better known by its acronym, the work of 'RICHeS', referring to the myriad, tangible and intangible cultural-historical riches of the island, is dedicated to the protection, promotion and study of the cultural heritage and history of Rhodes and the other Dodecanese islands.
Founded in 2009, the NGO has grown to become one of Greece's most active private organisations in the field of cultural heritage. RICHeS' events, actions and projects cover a wide range of topics and are aimed at general education, dissemination and raising awareness among the audience. From the immensely popular 'Anoiktes Portes/Open Doors' days (European Heritage Days) to lectures, exhibitions and civil society watchdog actions, RICHeS both operates independently and - where possible - in cooperation with public institutions such as the Regional Government of the South Aegean, the Municipality of Rhodes, the General Archives of the Dodecanese, the Ministry of Culture/Archaeological Service of the Dodecanese as well as several other private and non-private organisations and ngo's.
More information about RICHeS' events and actions can be found in the menu. Our latest project, the campaign to include the modernist heritage of the Dodecanese on the national tentative list for Unesco World Heritage status, has its own website: www.dodecanesemodernheritage.com.
