This year's theme is 'Divine Heritage – the three religions in Rhodes'. The following historic monuments will open their doors:
- Kastellania / Loggia (ground floor) – Info Center Open Doors 2014 with a theme exhibition about Divine Heritage in Rhodes and all the information you need. The best place to start your walk or have a relaxing stop on your way, under the Gothic arches providing shade.
Open: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28, 11:00 – 18:00 - Kastellania / First floor – The Talented Doctor Hedenborg – exhibition. Of course the RICHeS anniversary exhibition also participates with Open Doors. Haven't been yet? Then this is a good opportunity. Don't miss the wonderful painted 16th century ceiling.
Open: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28, 11:00 – 18:00 - Church and monastery of St. George. An 'old friend' returns, also participated in 2011 and 2012. Admire its solemn architecture and high dome.
Open: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28, 11:00 – 18:00 - Church and monastery of St. Augustine. Tucked away in a remote corner of the old town you'll find the peaceful church of St. Augustine, once the center of the monastery of the influential Order of St. Augustine in medieval Rhodes.
Open: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28, 11:00 – 18:00 - Church of the Holy Trinity. A favorite of many. Admire its peculiar architecture, its frescos and its impressive half minaret, a reminder from the time when this church was the Dolapli mosque.
Open: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28, 11:00 – 18:00 - Church of St. Catherine. A small church with a surprising interior, don't miss this first time Open Doors participant. According to certain traditions this was the first church to be converted into a mosque and/or the place where Suleyman the Magnificent prayed after the surrender of the town in 1522.
Open: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28, 11:00 – 18:00 - Mosque of Suleyman the Magnificent. One of Rhodes' most striking landmarks, dominating its silhouette. The entrance portal is the finest example of renaissance sculpting in Rhodes and was taken from a knight's tomb.
Open: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28, 11:00 – 18:00 - Mosque of Mustafa III. Don't be fooled by its austere exterior, this mosque has an impressive 18th century baroque interior.
Open: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28, 11:00 – 18:00 - Kahal Shalom Synagogue & Museum. The oldest (from 1577) still functioning synagogue in Greece and its adjacent museum are one of Rhodes' most visited cultural attractions. A first time Open Doors participant. Exceptionally, and especially for this occasion, the Synagogue is also open on Saturday (the jewish Sabbat). On request, synagogue staff will provide guided tours in the building.
Open: Saturday 27 from 11:00 - 18:00 and Sunday 28 from 10:00 – 18:00
